Roger M. Milgrim – Intellectual Property Expert

Roger Milgrim’s unique experience underlies fact based expertise. He’s familiar with numerous facets of IP and licensing from five decades of law practice for a broad array of clients in diverse industries.

His experience as a lawyer has been complemented by directorships in two major Paris-based international corporations, Coflexip and Technip. Coflexip was listed on NASDAQ and the Paris Bourse and Technip on the NYSE and the Paris Bourse, and is one of the CAC 40. Those companies are recognized world leaders in off shore drilling activities and downstream petrochemical engineering. He has also served on the boards of the Fulbright Association, The Brooklyn Hospital and NYU School of Law.

He has served as an expert in over 50 litigations and arbitrations, both domestic and international. Areas of testimony have included practices that are used in industry to protect confidential matter and IP licensing practices as they bear on rights and duties in unidirectional and cross licenses. He has been retained by a broad cross section of domestic and international law firms.

He taught IP and licensing law for over two decades as an adjunct professor of law at NYU School of Law and has lectured at other law schools.

His treatise, MILGRIM ON TRADE SECRETS, initially published as a single volume work in 1967 and periodically supplemented and revised and is currently five volumes. As of January 2024 there have been 134 releases. TRADE SECRETS has been cited by the Supreme Court and by numerous federal and state courts across the country. His now four volume treatise, MILGRIM ON LICENSING, initially published in 1990, has been as of January 2024 supplemented 58 times. LICENSING was cited by the Court in its closely-watched opinion in Kimble v. Marvel Enterprises concerning hybrid licensing where the licensed rights were trade secrets and a patent.
